UROGYNECOLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
The pelvic floor is the set of muscles, ligaments, connective tissue and nerves that function as a structure that allows the support of the pelvic organs, the uterus, vagina, bladder, urethra and rectum.
At fisiorosis we treat pelvic floor dysfunction in women, such as urinary incontinence, genital prolapses, perineal pain, constipation or digestive disturbances, abdominal diastasis, post-cesarean or episiotomy scars, and sexual discomfort.
The most common, urinary incontinence, can be stress (when coughing, exercising or straining) or urgency (imperious desire to urinate).
Prolapses (or descent of the pelvic organs) are triggered by the rupture or weakness of the pelvic floor support. Many times it can generate a feeling of a lump in the vagina.
Vaginal pain can come from physical factors, such as an episiotomy, hypertonia in an internal muscle… but it can also come from psychological or emotional factors.
Scars are an indispensable element that the physiotherapist must assess and treat if necessary, so that there are no sequelae of any kind (pain, altered movement, altered sensitivity…)
CAUSES
The causes for which there may be incontinence, prolapse, etc. can come in the postpartum period, in an older person due to the hormonal changes that are generated causing alterations in the tissues of the pelvic floor,… but it is also important to work at a preventive level, because the pelvic floor is part of the woman’s health status, and perhaps in the face of significant obesity, genetic problems, or the practice of impact sports, pathology or weakness in the pelvic floor can be generated.
The treatment is always personalized for each woman, based on a good physical examination, together with the tests that come from the gynecologist (ultrasound, urodynamic study…)
